Today a new company was announced called Tachyon Nexus.   Founded by AMPLab Ph.D. student Haoyuan (HY) Li, and funded by leading Silicon Valley VC firm  Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Tachyon Nexus is still largely in stealth mode, but announced their commitment to the open source model behind the Tachyon distributed storage system.  A perspective on Tachyon and the prospects for the company can be found on the a16z blog at  http://a16z.com/2015/03/17/tachyon/
