“Shinji Nakadai, the first-place finisher in Sunday’s Oakland marathon, shrugged off his victory, noting that he can do the 26.2 miles 10 minutes faster than his winning time of 2:37.29.

The 34-year-old Japanese computer science research fellow at UC Berkeley lamented that he had raced too conservatively. A world champion ultra runner, Nakadai has clocked more than 62 miles in 6:43.44. Nakadai planned to run home Sunday – from Oakland to Berkeley.”
